Having natural hair can have its ups and downs but loving your natural hair is a lot about self-love! Sure, it can be aggravating and frustrating at times, especially if you don’t know how to properly care for your hair type but once you figure out the hair care routine that’s perfect for your hair type that’s when the self-love really begins.
Having kinky curly hair created a real hair obstacle for me. The normal grease the scalp and braid the hair wasn’t really embracing my natural curls and those tight braids oh lord it really isn’t great for the hair follicles either.
I dreamed and longed for that long flowing luxurious hair, I saw other girls with on the tv. At school, it was so heartbreaking to see so many girls with long straight hair and they loved to make fun of me and call me “Puffy Head Sha-Nae-Nae”.
Eventually, I cut my hair and told my mom that I wanted a relaxer, or I would cut more off, and she obliged me. I finally felt free, and life became so much easier! All the constant detangling was over.
As I got older, I started researching how to properly care for natural hair, and to my shock and surprise my lovely mother was caring for my hair wrong all along.
So, when I was 20 years old I decided to chop the relaxer out of my hair and began my natural hair care journey. Trust me when I say the process was time-consuming, expensive, and emotionally tolling. It didn't take long for me to get tired of trying every product in the beauty supply store.
So, in my mid-20s, I made the horrible mistake of getting a Keratin treatment done to my hair. My hair was almost completely straight after the Keratin treatment with minimal waves throughout my hair. I was told the effects would dissipate in 6 months... but instead, my hair started breaking off rapidly. I was so depressed and upset with myself for putting chemicals in my hair again. So, I made the tough decision to go ahead and do a major chop to my hair again.
After I had my daughter, I seemed to revert back to the same mentality I had learned from my childhood of simply greasing the scalp and braiding her hair… Boy was that a mistake. The constant tight braids ended up causing her to lose her edges and her hair was breaking off rapidly.
It was then that I realized I should start taking all this knowledge I have learned throughout the years about natural hair care and put it to use.
The fact is caring for your natural hair is best done with wholesome, natural ingredients that come from the earth.
Avoiding things like heat, parabens, combs, over-shampooing, alcohol, and artificial fragrances is key to having healthy natural hair.
I have worked long and hard creating one-of-a-kind formulas for the ultimate hair care system that is good for people with natural hair. I have strategically turned my yard into a organic garden oasis for plants that have extreme nutritional benefits for hair & skin.
Now I and my precious daughter are embracing our naturally glorious crown of hair!
